"What are you doing, Eric?” my third grade teacher asked. "I am drawing the battleship from Star Blazers. Check out the power of the motion wave cannon!" I responded.
Ever since I was young, I have been a dreamer and have understood that art and design keep the world turning. Think about it. Everywhere you look, someone is trying to sell you something. Whether it's the latest cell phone, the newest cool feature on a car, or design possibilities for your business, the way something is presented has a big impact on how and what we buy.
When I was around 25 years old, I had an epiphany. At that time in my life, I was working at a Chevy's restaurant as the assistant manager, and I had to undergo some testing on recipes and ingredients. The trainer was sitting across the table from me, asking me why I didn't know how many tomatoes went into Pico de Gallo. I wanted to fire back with, “I could really care less,” but I didn't. Instead, I politely apologized for not knowing and told him I would study harder next time. It was at this moment I knew I needed to change my profession.
You may be wondering why I am sharing all this. The reason is because I know that if you are like me, in any way, and have an entrepreneurial mind, you understand what this moment is like. Every owner I have ever talked to has had a moment that sticks out in his / her mind as momentous and life-changing. A moment that demanded, “Follow your passion!”
Within a week of the Chevy’s training epiphany, I had enrolled in Master's Institute of Technology, an accelerated-learning school, where I eagerly absorbed the fundamentals of Multimedia and Design. Since then I have worked at numerous companies, helping them expand their selling abilities by creating BUYING PLATFORMS and devising streamlined, realistic ways for them to target their markets.
Over the past 10 years, I have built a clientele that gives me the ability to own and operate a business doing what I love: helping small to medium-sized businesses build their market shares in the twenty-first century. What does this mean? Embracing the tools and technology of the times. Even in just the last decade, the business world has changed immensely. With every big company on the web, and more people using social media, there is great opportunity, but there is also increased competition. If you are not being properly promoted, no one will know you exist.
Ten years ago, having a presence on the Internet was an optional feature – something a company would do in addition to print and TV ads. Things have changed. Today, consumers go to the web first. They want to know about products and services in real-time! Without a strong web presence, your company and its wonderful product can be left flailing in the huge cyber-wake created by large corporations and well-known brands. Even with all your talents, without Internet leverage, your company will be lost at sea, and your target market won’t get a chance to know how great you are.
